Blackbird Restaurant, East Perth

I came here for lunch and the place was pleasant with nice views overlooking the lake leading towards the Swan River. For entrée's we had the duck parfait which was very tasty but wasn't filling as it came with toasted baguette rounds for dipping.

For the mains I had the steak which came with chips. It was carefully crafted however, it wasn't really steak as it was more like small beef strips but surprisingly, it filled me up and was cooked to perfection. The chips were small but thickly cut and had a nice crisp to them. If I had it for dinner I would probably would still be hungry after the meal though as it was a small serve.

For dessert, the berry sorbet was okay and refreshing with cubes of watermelon and candied walnuts that accompanied the dish. The chocolate tart was very rich and smooth. This was better out of the two desserts. There were a few mozzies flying around due to the hot weather and one went into my water, but other than that the service was great and I would come here again.

Cream, East Perth

This restaurant had a cosy and romantic feel as soon as you stepped in with the candle lit tables and fake fur covered wall. The waiter had a relaxed and casual approach.

Initially I was excited to try this place but overall, was disappointed with the food. For entrée's I had the soup du jour with mushroom and bacon. The flavours were very rich and was thick, smooth and creamy although I felt that there was a bit too much salt for my liking which could have been due to the inclusion of bacon.

For the mains I had the Baby Beef which came with mash potato on the side. The beef was cooked well but I did not like the cut which contained a lot of fat which was of a glutinous texture. The sauce was very thick and heavy. The mashed potato was not completely mashed. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this particular dish as it was not nice however, I would like to try a few others from here in the future. My partner's dish of chicken risotto looked substantial and the flavours seemed nice so this was definitely better than my dish.

For the dessert I had the pistachio cream filled profiteroles with chocolate sauce. This was very nice  with a light fluffy texture of the profiteroles and a crispy surface. There was a good balanced between the cream and pistachio.

The Hazelnut Kiss cocktail similar to a Toblerone cocktail was served in a tall glass which was made well and had a good balance of flavours.

It was quite cold as we were directly under the air-con, so ensure you bring a jacket just in case.

Chicken Risotto

Shilla Korean BBQ Restaurant, East Perth

The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a Korean theme overlooking the Swan River. Each table is equipped with underfloor cooking devices specially designed for cooking Korean barbecue. The menu is separated based on the meat type.

I was a bit disappointed with the place. The serves were too small for the BBQ Main Meal; they go by the weight of the meat for each serve rather than the number of people so we were one piece short even though we paid per person. There wasn't enough room on the table for all the condiments and it was very pricey. Each table accommodates for about four people comfortably, any more than this number gets very cramped.

However, I tried the Bibimbap for lunch and it was tasty and full of vegetables but it lacked meat. This place is a hit and miss. The main waitress doesn't like to explain the meals when asked and wasn't friendly at all.
